Research question

Can agarwood be induced in cultivated Aquilaria trees with microbes, reliably, without waiting decades for the tree to be wounded on its own?

Agarwood forms when an Aquilaria tree is wounded and secretes resin to protect itself. In nature this takes decades and cannot be predicted.

In 2016 VNUSLAB invited experts from Seoul National University to survey the trees together. From 2017, Từ Đức Dũng and Prof. Phan Văn Trường developed a microbial agarwood-induction process for Buon Ma Thuot Medical University.
